As mandated by the Innovative Startup Act (R.A. #11337), the Philippine Startup Development Program (PSDP) exists with the goal of supporting the country’s growing startup ecosystem through various programs, benefits, and incentives. Being one of the lead agencies, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) implemented the Digital Startup Development and Acceleration Program (DSDAP) which provides strengthened initiatives and support services for the constantly evolving startup landscape in the country.
With the growing need to monitor and track the nation’s current startup ecosystem, the DICT, through the ICT Industry Development Bureau (IIDB), launched its Startup Ecosystem Mapping Activity referred to as the Startup Community and Locale Enhancement (SCALE) project across the country. SCALE is a collaborative and participatory data-gathering method that explores the current startup initiatives and landscape in a certain location through a guided discussion with a multi-sectoral and well-represented set of respondents.
This activity is imperative and vital to conduct as it guides and serves as a basis for conducting appropriate intervention programs for the needs of the startup community. As of 2022, 21 locations have been mapped.
